The Journal of Traditional Medicines (J. Trad. Med.) will accept original and innovative papers on natural medicines from both members, and non-members of the Medical and Pharmaceutical Society for WAKAN-YAKU. Contributions may include pharmacognostical, pharmacological, biochemical, chemical, and clinical application researches on natural medicines (traditional medicine and pharmacy). Original research papers are accepted on the understanding that they are subject to editorial revision.
Contributions are encouraged to submit the paper in English.
The Journal publishes Regular Articles, Short Communication, Notes, Case Reports, News Letters and Reviews. With the exception of Reviews, manuscripts will be reviewed thoroughly by two or more experts, whose opinions will be the basis for the final decision.
New, significant, innovative, and original findings are suitable as Regular Articles.
Papers containing new facts and important data derived from incomplete or partial studies may be suitable as a Short Communication. Short Communication should not exceed more than 4 printed pages.
Papers should not exceed more than 8 printed pages.
News Letters are reports on biological screening data and field observations etc., which may contribute to the scientific knowledge of the readers. The manuscript should not exceed more than 8 printed pages.
These are submitted by invitation from the editorial board, and encompass recent important scientific discoveries. Unsolicited reviews, but authors wishing to submit a review are requested to consult the earliest possible stage, i.e. prior to commencement.
Comment letters on what has been published in Journal of Traditional Medicines are welcome and must reach the journal within 8 weeks of publication of the original item. Length must not exceed 500 words, only one table or figure is permitted, and there should be no more than five references. No more than five authors can be included. Fax or postal submissions are accepted.
The original and two copies of the manuscript should be submitted to the Editorial Office, with the "Journal of Traditional Medicines Assignment Copyright","Author's Checklist for Manuscript Submission":

All Manuscript should be computer printed or typewritten in English on an A4-size white paper. The page should not exceed with more than 30 lines. All subsequent pages should be numbered consecutively.
The title page (page 1) should start with the type of manuscript (Regular article, Short communication, Case report, News letter, and Review). This should be followed by the title, a brief title for a running head (not exceeding 40 letters), name(s) of the author(s) and affiliation, mailing address, and E-mail address. An asterisk(*) should be added to the right of the corresponding author's name.
For contribution from Japan, the corresponding author's name and address are advised to write in Japanese, together with the telephone number, fax number, and E-mail.
Page 2 should contain a summary of the paper with the less than 250 words and 3 to 6 descriptive keywords.
The text of a research paper should be divided into introduction, methodology, results and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgments and references. Figures, tables, and charts showing chemical structures should be collected at the end, each on a separate sheet. All pages should be numbered consecutively.
Authors are required to include: (i) the w/w yield of prepared extracts in terms of starting crude materials; (ii) complete formulation details of all crude drug mixtures; (iii) the voucher specimen number of the plants or crude drugs studied and indicating the name of the herbarium institution where they have been deposited.
In principle, figures, tables, and charts showing chemical structures prepared by the author(s) will be used in the printed version of the journal. All chemical structures, figures, and tables should be numbered consecutively with Arabic numbers, and figure titles and legends are to be typed consecutively on a separate sheet. All figures, tables and charts should be prepared on A4-size white paper.
Abbreviation must be spelled out in full at their initial appearance, followed by the abbreviation in parentheses. Thereafter, the abbreviation may be employed.
However, the following need not be defined:
